Man shot at Northwood Plaza in Baltimore

A man was shot as he was walking out of a gas station in Northwood Plaza in Northeast Baltimore on Sunday afternoon, the second such shooting there within a few days, police said.

The 19-year-old told police he was walking out a gas station at 1501 Havenwood Ave. when he heard gunshots, and realized he was shot in the shoulder. He got a ride to the hospital, where he was interviewed by police around 2:05 p.m.

A developer intends to redevelop Northwood Plaza, a strip mall near the campus of Morgan State University.

Another man was shot at the same gas station Friday morning. That victim, 20, was shot in the arm as he sat in his car, when a gunman opened fire into a group.

Morgan State's director of campus and public safety, Adrian J. Wiggins, sent an email to the Morgan community addressing the shootings and saying that campus police had knowledge of other crimes at the gas station recently.

"Therefore, given the recent uptick in reported violent crimes at the gas station, Morgan State University Police Department urges the University's students, faculty, and staff not to patronize the gas station until the site security has improved," he wrote. "We also ask that you remain aware of your surroundings as you travel off campus."

Wiggins also urged students living in the nearby Marble Hall Gardens apartments to make use of a security guard escort when walking to campus.

Attempts to reach anyone at the gas station for comment were unsuccessful.
