Last year, the city's Western District saw a steep decline in homicides compared with 2013, from 43 to 21, which helped fuel an overall citywide drop. So far in 2014, the district has already seen five killings.

Earlier Wednesday, a man was shot multiple times in the 4800 block of Wilern Ave. in Central Park Heights. Police did not release the victim's condition but said shooting detectives had the case. Anyone with information was asked to call 410-396-2466.

Shooting detectives were also investigating a Tuesday night incident in Brooklyn, police said.

Officers were called to a local hospital where a man was being treated for two gunshot wounds to the back, police said. Investigators determined that the shooting occurred in the 3600 block of 9th Street. The victim's condition and the motive in the shooting are unknown.
