Police have recovered the gun used to kill to popular Baltimore rapper Lor Scoota, a department spokesman confirmed Tuesday.

Chief spokesman T.J. Smith said police recently arrested a man who was in possession of the gun, and ballistics tests confirmed a match to the weapon used to kill Tyriece Watson, 23, on June 25 in Northeast Baltimore.

Smith said detectives consider the man found with the gun to be a "person of interest" but are still investigating if he had a role in Watson's killing.

Police said they have been getting help from the community and are continuing to pursue tips.

"The tip line has helped; people have sent in tips, links," Smith said. "We are certainly making progress in this investigation."

Watson was shot in the 4600 block of Harford Road while driving from a peace rally at Morgan State University. Widely considered one of the top rappers in the city, his killing set off days of grieving and large rallies.

Days later, Watson's manager, Trayvon Lee, was killed in Northwest Baltimore.

Police have said Watson's killing was retaliation, with the rapper being targeted because of his association with someone that had shot someone else.
