Baltimore man receives 15-year sentence for convenience store robberies

A Baltimore man received a 15 year sentence in federal court this week for robbing two stores, stealing several hundred dollars, according to the Maryland U.S. attorney's office.

Prosecutors said Donte Maurice Johnson, 30, robbed a grocery store on Claremont Avenue and a convenience store on Philadelphia Road, both in Baltimore, in November 2013.

At the Claremont Avenue business on Nov. 2, 2013, prosecutors said Johnson held a shotgun to the store owner's head and demanded money. He and a co-conspirator who acted as a look-out, took between $600 and $700.

On Nov. 25, 2013, Johnson pointed a shotgun at two employees, demanding money, while his co-conspirator went behind the counter and taking $153 from the register, prosecutors said. They then started to rob the store's customers.

One customer managed to leave, call police, and then followed Johnson and the co-conspirator when they left the store so he could give police directions. Prosecutors said Johnson fired one round from a shotgun at the customer in his vehicle.
