A man convicted of fatally shooting a construction worker in an act of retaliation received a 20-year sentence this week, the Baltimore State's Attorney's office said.
A jury in April convicted Keyon Jackson, 23, in the death of Nathanial Wheeler, 31, in July of 2015, after police found Wheeler's body hanging from the bobcat he was operating.
Nathanial Wheeler's brother, Carlos Wheeler, a member of the east side "Gucci Boys" gang, was sentenced in May 2015 to life for the attempted murder of Ronnie Thomas Jr., the son of Ronnie "Skinny Suge" Thomas, creator of the 'Stop Snitching" DVDs.
Prosecutors said Nathanial Wheeler's killing was in retaliation for his brother shooting Ronnie Thomas Jr.
Just three days after Carlos Wheeler's sentencing, prosecutors said Ronnie Thomas Jr. was murdered.
State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby praised the sentencing.
"It is our job as law enforcement officials to ensure that when murderers take a life in this city, they spend the rest of theirs behind bars," Mosby said in a statement. "The court of law has no tolerance for street justice," she said.
In Nathanial Wheeler's murder, witnesses told police an unknown person drove Jackson to the construction work site, where he shot Nathanial Wheeler multiple times in his head and body.
Jackson then ran back to the vehicle, and the driver took off, police said. An officer who heard the gunshots, saw the fleeing car and chased it. Police eventually apprehended Jackson after he bailed out of the vehicle.
