One city police officer remains in critical condition, while a second is suspended with pay, following a pursuit of a motorized scooter that ended when the patrol car slammed into a telephone pole.

Police continue to investigate the Nov. 23accident on Kirk Avenue, said police spokeswoman Lt. Sarah E. Connolly. She said officer Brandon Bolt who was driving the patrol car, has been treated and released from the hospital and has been suspended with pay. He has been employed by the department since 2013. Another officer, who has been employed by the department since 2008, remains in the hospital in critical condition.

A third officer, employed by the department since 2005, been treated and released from the hospital, she said.

Police would not identify the two officers who were riding in the patrol car. All three are assigned to the Neighborhood Patrol Bureau.

Police have charged the driver of the scooter, Deonta Winston, 22, with multiple traffic violations. Winston is in stable condition.

Police would not say why the three officers were riding together in a single vehicle.

The incident began after an officer saw a group of dirt bikers assembling in an alley, police said previously. The riders fled on their bikes when police approached, except for one man who was ran and was later picked up by another moped driver.

The officers followed the moped, which at that time was only carrying a driver.

Baltimore police must get permission from a shift commander to pursue vehicles they are chasing, but police said that a sergeant told the three officers to discontinue the chase.
