Police shoot suspect in Northwest Baltimore

Police shot a suspect in Northwest Baltimore Thursday night, officials said.

A driver sped off when police tried to pull his vehicle over for a traffic stop in the 4400 block of Reisterstown Road about 9 p.m., police said.

The vehicle was spotted again in the 4300 block of Pimlico Road, where it crashed and the driver ran off, police said. Officers chased him, caught him and struggled to arrest him, police said. During the struggle, an officer shot the suspect at least once, police said.

The officers were not injured.

The suspect managed to escape but was found injured on nearby Loyola Northway a short time later, police said.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was undergoing surgery Thursday night. Police did not elaborate on the extent of his injuries.
