An 82-year-old man and 70-year-old woman were assaulted, threatened with a gun and robbed in their home in the Patterson Park neighborhood in East Baltimore on Wednesday night, police said.
Police said they do not believe the incident is related to a similar home invasion and assault of a 90-year-old woman in her home in Northwest Baltimore the same day. Police continue to investigate both incidents.
In the Patterson Park incident, officers responded about 9:30 p.m. to the 100 block of Rochester Place, a block that abuts the park on the northeast, for a report of an armed robbery, police said.
When officers arrived at the home, the elderly couple "reported that upon entering their home after an evening out, an unknown suspect walked up behind them and forced his way into their home," police said. "The suspect then pushed them to the floor, displayed a handgun and demanded the victims' property and money."
The victims, whom police did not name, gave the suspect cash, a cellphone and a wallet, and the suspect left the home and rode away on a bicycle. Despite being pushed to the floor, neither of the victims reported being injured, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call district detectives at 410-396-2422 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCK-UP.
Police also are continuing to investigate the assault of the 90-year-old woman in the Park Heights area Wednesday afternoon. The woman was left in critical but stable condition after an attacker entered her home and inflicted "multiple injuries," police said.
Police did not name the woman and were unsure Wednesday whether the incident involved any items being stolen from the home.
Anyone with information in that case is also asked to call Metro Crime Stoppers.
Police also announced that the suspicious death in March of 77-year-old Raymond Chambers in East Baltimore had been ruled a homicide by the state medical examiner's office, which determined that the death was caused via a "sharp force injury."
The incident is being investigated by homicide detectives. Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Crime Stoppers or homicide detectives at 410-396-2100.
