Man, 39, stabbed to death, others hurt in city shootings

Two men were shot in the parking garage at Horseshoe Casino Baltimore early Sunday.

A 39-year-old man was stabbed to death, and four men were injured in shootings — two of them at the Horseshoe Casino — in Baltimore on Sunday, authorities said.

The fatal stabbing happened just before 5 p.m. in the 2400 block of Brentwood Avenue in Barclay, police said. The victim, whose name was not released Sunday evening, was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Homicide detectives are investigating. No other details were released.

Another man was injured in a shooting around 9 p.m. in the 6200 block of Bel Air Road in Northeast Baltimore. The 26-year-old victim told police he had been robbed, but police believe the incident was drug related.

Late Sunday afternoon, a 25-year-old man was shot in both arms in the 5500 block of Bowleys Lane in Frankford. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Two other men who were wounded when gunfire broke out in the parking garage at Horseshoe Casino Baltimore in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police said a group of men had argued earlier, then encountered each Sunday about 1:20 a.m. on the fourth floor of the parking garage. One man, 21, was shot in his hand; another, 21, in his foot. Both men were hospitalized.

That shooting followed two overnight homicides in the city. Those separate shootings followed a violent Friday and Saturday, police said.

Since Friday, 13 people were injured and three people were killed in shootings in the city.

At a news conference about a program to install free smoke alarms across the city Saturday, Mayor Catherine Pugh spoke out against the violence.

"We've got to make our city safe. I am so tired of the gun violence. I've been on the job less than 50 days, and the number of guns that are on our streets are out of control," Pugh said.
