A Baltimore police officer was injured in a car crash in East Baltimore Thursday, the department said.
The incident took place in the 1900 block of E. Lafayette Ave. just before 11 a.m., as an Eastern District patrol officer was responding to a serious call for service, police said. The officer had his emergency lights and sirens on when his patrol car was hit by another car, which then crashed into a home at the intersection of LaFayette and Washington, police said.
The officer was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma and the other driver was treated at the scene, both with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
On the scene at the corner of Lafayette and North Washington Street, a police cruiser sat with front-end damage near a tan sedan and a black car Thursday morning. Several officers milled about, some talking to the driver of another vehicle.
Investigators determined that the accident was due to civilian error, police said.
