Before working in the Attorney General's Office, Middleton was as prosecutor in the Baltimore State's Attorney's Office. In 2013, she helped coordinate a task force created by then-Gov. Martin O'Malley to investigate jail corruption after a sweeping federal indictment alleged widespread corruption at the Baltimore City Detention Center.

Middleton previously served as a clerk for Prince George's County Circuit Judge Sheila R. Tillerson Adams, and worked as a litigation associate at Williams Worthy, LLC in Upper Marlboro.

Middleton received her bachelor's degree from Morgan State University and her law degree from George Washington University Law School.

A month after a federal indictment alleged widespread corruption at the Baltimore City Detention Center, Gov. Martin O'Malley on Monday announced a new task force charged with pushing the inquisition further.

Also Thursday, Hogan appointed Harris Murphy to the Kent County Circuit Court.

"After a careful and thorough vetting process, I am confident that Dana Middleton and Harris Murphy are the most qualified candidates to fill these vacancies," Hogan said in a statement. "Their years of public service, as well as their excellence in upholding the law, show that they are both uniquely prepared to serve their respective communities."

Middleton was chosen from a list of seven nominees that included District Court judges Gregory Sampson and Flynn Marcus Owens, and Baltimore assistant state's attorney Charles Mario Blomquist.
