A Baltimore jury has convicted Prince Rogers in the murder of a tow-truck driver in the city's Upton neighborhood, the state's attorney's office said.
In the early hours of Nov. 1, 2010, Rogers, 36, approached the vehicle where driver Andrew Joyce, 23, was working to load a Dodge Durango onto his truck. A witness watched as the two men argued, and as Joyce reached into the truck, Rogers fired a single shot, prosecutors said.
Police found Joyce lying across the seat with the engine of the truck still running.
It took detectives four years to close the case and State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby said Thursday it showed how officers don't give up.
"The police work conducted in this case was crucial to securing this conviction, people think that law enforcement gives up on cases if they aren't solved shortly after the crime is committed," she said in a statement. "Yesterday's verdict is a prime example of law enforcement's relentless pursuit of justice."
Rogers faces a maximum sentence of life in prison plus 20 additional years.
Erica White, Rogers' attorney, said he maintains his innocence. She plans to seek a new trial and appeal the conviction if her client does not get one.
"There's a lot of evidence that was brought in that should have been left out," she said.
