Baltimore man sentenced to life in prison for murder of his pregnant girlfriend

A 33-year-old man from Northwest Baltimore has been sentenced to life in prison for shooting and stabbing his pregnant girlfriend to death.

William Mason, of the 3900 block of Liberty Heights Ave., was found guilty of murder in October. He was sentenced to life in prison on Jan. 15 in Baltimore Circuit Court.

In June 2017, police were called an apartment on Liberty Heights Avenue for the sounds of gunshots and screaming. Police found Mason sitting on the steps outside and covered in blood, prosecutors said. They said he wore one blood-covered sock and his other foot was bare.

Inside they found the body of Khaya Lambert, 23, who was several weeks pregnant, and two handguns. Police found a mix of blood belonging to both Mason and Lambert in the apartment.

“The cold and callous murder of this pregnant woman is unfathomable” Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby said in a statement. “I’m thankful for the diligent efforts of the victim's neighbors who reported the incident.”
