The death of a 77-year-old man in East Baltimore in March was ruled a homicide by the Office of the State Medical Examiner on Wednesday, according to Baltimore police.
Raymond Chambers was found dead inside a home in the 1500 block of N. Durham Street, in the city's Broadway East neighborhood, about 11:05 p.m. on March 4 after police were called to the home to check on his well-being, police said.
The death was "classified as suspicious," but not ruled a homicide pending an autopsy by a medical examiner, police said.
The medical examiner ruled the cause of death was homicide via a "sharp force injury," according to Det. Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman.
Police were withholding additional information about the case to protect the investigation, Monroe said.
The homicide finding brings the total number of killings in Baltimore this year to 87, as of Wednesday evening.
