Baltimore case from 2012 ruled homicide

The latest homicide ruled in Baltimore is of a man who was shot four years ago and died this May, according to police. But the man charged in connection with his shooting was already found not guilty at trial.

Deonte Sylve, 19, was walking in the 1100 block of North Stricker Street on February 6, 2012 when he was shot in the face by a suspect who ran away. Sylve initially recovered, but died May 5 at age 24. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the case a homicide on Tuesday, according to police.

Brandon Kelam was charged with attempted murder in the case in 2012, but was found not guilty.

Police on Wednesday also identified two recent homicide victims. Korri Thomas, 2, was found dead in the first block of Exeter Street on August 27. Daniel Smalls, 34, was killed in the 2600 block of East Monument Street on Monday.
