Police identify man killed in Baltimore shooting Friday

Police identified a man killed in a double shooting in East Baltimore early Friday morning as a 19-year-old Baltimore resident.

Deontrey Thompson, of Baltimore's Broadway East neighborhood, was shot in the head in the 2700 block Jefferson Street in the McElderry Park neighborhood about 1:30 a.m., police said. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Another man was shot in the back — police say his condition is stable.

Before the shooting, the McElderry Park neighborhood had gone 71 days without a homicide, according to Safe Streets, a city-funded program that mediates disputes before they escalate to violence. The Safe Streets program launched in that neighborhood in 2007.
