Man shot to death in Greenmount West early Friday morning

A 30-year-old man was shot to death while retrieving something from his car in Greenmount West early Friday morning, police said.

Officers were called to the 1800 block of North Calvert Street about 3:10 a.m. for a report of a shooting, and they found the man with gunshot wounds to the leg and stomach. A preliminary investigation found he was attacked just outside his home, and police believe he had just stepped outside to get something from his vehicle.

He was taken to an area hospital, where he died.

It was the second shooting death in the neighborhood, just south of North Avenue and west of Greenmount Cemetery, in two weeks. A 19-year-old man died after being found shot near North Calvert and East Lanvale streets Sept. 14.
