About 40 people shot in city since April 27 riots

Ten people were shot in Baltimore on Thursday as violence surges.

Ten shootings were reported Thursday across Baltimore, continuing a spate of gun violence that began after riots overtook West Baltimore on April 27. At least three of the victims died.

About 40 people have been shot since April 28, the day after Baltimore's most intense day of rioting.

Police said 82 people have been killed this year, 20 more than at the same time last year. Nonfatal shootings also have surged 47 percent, to 134 this year from 91 last year at this time.

Just after midnight Thursday morning, a 24-year-old man walked into an area hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot. The victim told police he was approached by an unknown man who shot him in the 1200 block of E. North Ave.

At 8:14 a.m., police were called to the 2800 block of Elgin Ave. in West Baltimore, where officers found a 21-year-old man who had been shot in the shoulder. The victim told police he was walking when a vehicle pulled up and a person inside fired at him. The man was taken to a hospital. His condition was not available, and there was no description of the gunman.

Another shooting was reported at 4:20 p.m. in the 4400 block of Marble Hall Road in North Baltimore. Officers found a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg. The man told officers he was sitting in a vehicle when an unknown person shot him.

A 34-year-old woman was shot several times at Patapsco Avenue and Potee Street about 6 p.m., police said. Police identified her as Melissa Anne Bingham, 24, of the 100 block of W. Patapsco Ave. Bingham was taken to a hospital and died of her wounds.

Police responded to a report of a double shooting about 8:45 p.m. in the 800 block of W. Lexington St. One victim died after being taken to a hospital. Police identified him as Armand Parrine, 26, whose last known address was in the 900 block of W. Saratoga St. A second victim was found nearby in the 100 block of N. Fremont Ave. with a gunshot wound to the leg.

At 10:10 p.m., a 52-year-old man was shot in the arm in the 5100 block of Park Heights Ave. in Northwest Baltimore, police said.

Three minutes later, officers responded to the 500 block of N. East Ave. for a reported shooting. They found a 28-year-old man who had been shot several times. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. Officers also found at the scene a 31-year-old woman who had been wounded by gunfire. She was taken to a hospital and was listed in critical condition Friday morning.

At 11 p.m., a 19-year-old man was shot in the shoulder in the 2200 block of Barclay St.

Police also identified a 42-year-old man killed Wednesday in the 2500 block of Druid Hill Ave. as Rodney Vandette Johnson. His last known address was in the 4100 block of Rollins Ave., police said.
