Police identify father, son killed in Southwest Baltimore

The father and son who were fatally shot on New Year's Day in Southwest Baltimore were pronounced dead 15 minutes apart, police said.

The men were identified as Frank Anthony Turner, 48, and Anthony Dionne Turner, 21, both of the 1500 block of Shields Place in West Baltimore, according to police. Police said the men were standing in the 3900 block of Edmondson Ave. at about 3:20 p.m. when an unknown person opened fire on them.

Police have not released a possible motive in the shooting or a description of the gunman, but police spokesman Capt. Eric Kowalczyk said investigators were chasing "some really good leads."

"Clearly in this situation, everybody's thoughts and prayers go out to the family. It's a horrible tragedy," Kowalczyk said.

A woman who answered the phone at a Gwynn Oak home listed for Frank Turner said the family did not want to comment.

Amin Peters, a 17-year-old Baltimore rapper who performs under the name "Young Goldie," wrote to his 70,000 followers on Twitter that his father and brother had been killed, though he did not name them. "I gotta get my family out of the hood with this music," he wrote last night.

He could not be reached for comment.

Police asked anyone with information to call 410-396-2100.
