Three people were shot, one fatally, in two separate incidents in Baltimore Monday, police said.
A man was shot multiple times at about 4:40 p.m. in the 1300 block of W. Lafayette Ave. in Sandtown-Winchester, near Harlem Park Elementary School, police said. The victim was taken to a hospital and later died. He was identified by police as Markez Jones, 28, of the 500 block of Yale Ave.
Homicide detectives were investigating, police said. Anyone with information may call 410-396-2100.
The Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood, on the west side of the city, is home to more people held in state prisons than any other census tract in Maryland, according to a report released last week by the Justice Policy Institute and the Prison Policy Initiative.
In the other incident at about 2:16 p.m., a man and woman were shot at a Seton Hill liquor store, the A-1 Deli & Grocery, just across from a bus stop in the 600 block of N. Eutaw St., police said. The man was shot in the hand, and the woman was shot in the stomach; both were taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.
Central District detectives are investigating, and anyone with information may call 410-396-2411.
The liquor store is next door to Krush Clothing, a shuttered shop whose co-owner was kidnapped and beaten into critical condition with a baseball bat and a pistol in an E. Madison Street torture house last year, police said.
No suspects or motives were identified in either shooting.
