Two dead in double shooting in North Baltimore

Two people were shot and killed Friday afternoon in the 5900 block of Glenkirk Ave., a block from Leith Walk Elementary School in the typically quiet neighborhood of Ramblewood in North Baltimore.

Baltimore City Police said they have a "person of interest" in custody but wouldn't provide more details of the incident that kept several blocks around Northern Parkway and Loch Raven Boulevard behind police tape for hours, ensnarling rush hour traffic.

Witnesses said they heard rapid gun fire and then police sirens.

"I saw two bodies," said D'Ontae Briggs, who followed a battery of emergency vehicles to Glenkirk and took video of one victim before being ushered away by police. "They were under sheets."

Baltimore City Police Det. Ruganzu Howard couldn't address several neighbors' concerns that the suspect, whom they couldn't identify, had retreated to his house with children.

"When officers arrived, they found two people had been shot," Howard said. "Both died at the scene. As a result, the area was cordoned off. A person of interest is in custody. We don't know the motive."
