Man fled traffic stop, struck Baltimore police car, 3 parked cars, officials say

A driver who fled from a traffic stop and struck a Baltimore police car Tuesday night faces charges, police said.

The pursuit began around 9 p.m. when a vehicle fled a traffic stop at Garrison Boulevard at Belle Avenue in Northwest Baltimore, police said. Officers pursued the vehicle, with help from a police helicopter, about a mile south, to the 4300 block of Fairview Avenue where the fleeing vehicle hit a marked police vehicle head on, police said. The suspect’s vehicle also struck three parked, unoccupied vehicles.

Police said the driver then bailed out and attempted to run but was stopped by officers about a block away.

The driver, two men and one woman riding in the vehicle were taken to an area hospital for non life-threatening injuries. The officer whose vehicle was struck was also taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police said charges are pending against the driver, and the police department’s crash team is investigating.
