Suspect in shooting of Baltimore bus driver taken into custody in Ohio

A Baltimore man has been charged with shooting an MTA bus driver last week, and was taken into custody in Northeastern Ohio.

Detectives have charged James Grimes, 26, with the shooting, which occurred March 14 in the 2500 block of Washington Blvd. Police said at the time that the driver got into a “verbal dispute” with the suspect, and asked to be let off the bus.

Police said the passenger stepped off the bus at the next scheduled stop, turned back and fired one shot at the driver, then ran away. The 30-year-old driver was seriously wounded.

Grimes, was arrested by U.S. Marshals and members of the Warrant Apprehension Task Force Thursday in Mahoning County, Ohio.

Additional details about the case were not available. Police said Grimes will be extradited back to Baltimore.
