Baltimore Police officer opens fire Tuesday afternoon near Upton Metro; no indication anyone hit

A Baltimore Police officer opened fire Tuesday afternoon in the Upton neighborhood of West Baltimore, a department spokeswoman said.

Lindsey Eldridge said she did not immediately have information about what caused the police officer to shoot in the 600 block of Laurens Street, near the Upton Metro station. The spokeswoman said she had no information that anyone was struck by the officer’s gunfire.

Police were at the scene investigating Tuesday. Eldridge said more information would be provided.

The Maryland Transit Administration closed the Upton Metro station at Pennsylvania Avenue and Laurens Street around 1:30 p.m. following the shooting, agency spokeswoman Veronica Battisti said.

Subway trains bypassed the closed station until it reopened about 5:30 p.m., she said.
