Woman killed in double stabbing in Northeast Baltimore, city’s first homicide of 2020

A 37-year-old woman was killed and a teenager was injured in a double stabbing in Northeast Baltimore early Thursday morning, marking Baltimore’s first homicide of the new year, according to police.

Baltimore police said they were called to the Belair-Edison neighborhood around 2:20 a.m. for a cutting. When officers arrived, they found Theatra Brown, a 37-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man suffering from stab wounds. Both were transported to area hospitals, where the woman later died, police said. The department did not provide information on the teen’s condition.

Baltimore police said Friday morning that they have a suspect in custody, but did not release any more information.

Baltimore ended 2019 with 348 homicides on record, according to data compiled by The Baltimore Sun. The city also set a record of 57 killings per 100,000 people.

Police also released the names of several recent homicide victims from the end of December:

  • Travis Smith, 32, was killed Dec. 28, in the 3400 block of Dudley Ave., the same block where police say he lived.
  • Antoine Prout, 25, was shot Dec. 18 in the 2400 block of Wilgrey Ct. He died Dec. 31.
  • Ralston Anderson, 33; Aulsyn Anderson, 27; and Ronald Carroll, 33 were killed Dec. 30 in the 500 block of E. 43rd St.
  • Darryl Stewart, 29, of the 2100 block of Ramsey St., was killed Dec. 30 in the 2000 block of Eagle St.
