A man was shot and killed Monday evening just steps outside a store at Mondawmin Mall in West Baltimore, police confirmed.
The shooting happened around 5:15 p.m, in front of the Dunkin Donuts on the mall’s east edge, said Det. Nicole Monroe, a spokeswoman.
He was pronounced dead a half-hour later, police said Tuesday.
Mayor Brandon Scott was at the scene and briefly talked with police leaders. He left without giving a statement.
Regina Holly, 56, was shopping at the mall about an hour before the shooting. She came back to the area a little later and saw the police tape.
“I’m not surprised there was another shooting,” said Holly, who grew up in the neighborhood. “It’s gotten more violent in these areas and it’s just the same thing every day.”
Tariq Mitchell, 28, was working out next door at Planet Fitness and left the gym to see officers and a police dog combing through the area.
The West Baltimore native said he wasn’t surprised to find out about the shooting.
“This is just summertime in Baltimore,” the Morgan State University graduate said. “But crime is everywhere, even in Baltimore County and Howard County.”
