Police: One dead, another injured after being struck by vehicle outside Mondawmin Mall

Baltimore police say a man is dead and another is injured after they were struck by a vehicle outside the Mondawmin Mall Monday afternoon.

Department spokeswoman Detective Nicole Monroe said that the two men were hit by a vehicle in front of the Shoppers Food Market at about 3:25 p.m.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene while another was taken to a local hospital to be treated, police said.

The driver was stopped at the scene and was also taken to a local hospital, Monroe said, adding it is “unclear at this time whether or not the driver suffered a medical emergency or is under the influence.”

As shoppers continued to stream into the grocery store and navigate backed up traffic, next to the store’s exit sprawled a small crime scene where detectives focused on a silver car with its trunk open.

A handful of onlookers watched police work, with a few stopping next to the flapping crime scene tape to snap a photo.

The victim’s body remained under a tarp around 5 p.m., with stray shopping carts scattered nearby. A few feet from the body sat a tennis shoe, pointed perfectly straight and surrounded by orange spray paint from police. About 50 feet from the shoe sat a different, black shoe.

Just before the stoplight at N. Pulaski St. and Gwynns Falls Parkway, sat a gold sedan with a cracked windshield. A police cruiser sat monitoring the vehicle.
