83-year-old woman struck by bullet while in bed overnight in Baltimore; man killed in separate incident, police say

An 83-year-old woman was struck by a bullet while reading in bed and a man was found shot to to death in a car overnight in Baltimore, police said.

Police said the elderly woman was in bed, reading a book around 2 a.m. Friday when a bullet burst through a window at her home in the 4400 block of Wakefield Road and hit her in the arm.

Medics took the woman from the West Forest Park neighborhood to the hospital.

Police encouraged anyone with information to call detectives assigned to the Northwest District station at 410-396-2466.

Approximately two hours before the woman was shot, Northeast District officers went to the 1600 block of E. 32nd Street in response to calls about a shooting, police said.

In that block, which runs east from the The Alameda near Baltimore City College, officers found a 41-year-old man in a car. Police said he appeared to have a gunshot wound.

Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene, and homicide detectives were summoned to investigate. Police asked that anyone with information about the apparent killing to call detectives at 410-396-2100.

There was another shooting in West Baltimore around midnight, according to police.

Officers went to the 2000 block of Bryant Avenue, in the city’s Mondawmin neighborhood. Police said when they arrived, they learned a 26-year-old man had been taken to the hospital by medics.

Police said they did not know about man’s condition.

At the scene, a person police described as a “possible suspect” was being detained by bystanders.

She was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. Police said they brought her in for questioning after she was discharged and arrested her on attempted-murder and firearms charges.

Police said the woman, also 26, shot the man after an argument.
