Police charge man with attempted murder in downtown incident

Baltimore Police have charged a man with attempted murder in connection with an incident downtown early Friday morning.

Around 12:50 a.m., a City Watch operator reported that he saw a man armed with a handgun in the unit block of Custom House Avenue. The man was later apprehended on the corner of Baltimore and Gay Streets, police said.

Officers searched the area and found a black and silver .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun, loaded with one round in the chamber and 13 in the magazine.

An investigation revealed that the suspect attempted to rob a man in the unit block of Custom House Street and produced the handgun. The victim ran and the suspect shot at the victim but missed.

One spent shell casing was recovered by crime lab along with the handgun. The victim was not injured in the incident, police said.

The suspect was identified as Nelson Lamar Pryor, 24, of no fixed address. He has been charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder, firearms violations, armed robbery, robbery, and first- and second-degree assault.
