Man connected to dropped Safe Streets case newly charged in attempted murder

A 26-year-old Baltimore man who was one of nine people arrested after a raid of a Safe Streets office in East Baltimore last year — a case in which all charges were dropped in March — has been arrested again, this time for attempted murder.

Barak Olds, of the 5700 block of Hazelwood Circle, was charged with attempted first-degree murder for the shooting of a 42-year-old man in the 1800 block of Caroline Street on May 14. In that incident, police said the victim was working on his vehicle when he was approached by a male gunmen, who began shooting at the victim.

Olds was one of nine people arrested last summer after an armed robbery led police to the office of Safe Streets, a crime intervention program. Olds was charged with assault, armed robbery and a range of other charges in connection with the initial incident.

In March, prosecutors dropped all charges related to that incident, received "exculpatory information that called into question the identity of the defendants."

Olds was being held without bond Friday.
