Man, 20, arrested after trying to break into ATM machine with ax in Baltimore

A 20-year-old man was arrested after trying to break into an ATM machine with an ax in Northwest Baltimore early Tuesday morning, police said.

Keenen Matthews, of the 5500 block of Minnoka Avenue, is charged with attempted larceny and destruction of property in the incident in the 5400 block of Reisterstown Road, police said.

Officers responded about 2:30 a.m. to find damage to both the ATM machine and a camera hanging overhead, police said. Matthews was unable to open the ATM, police said.

He ran and was arrested, and officers found the ax in the grass nearby, police said.

No phone number was listed for Matthews' home, and the case was not posted in online court records as of Tuesday afternoon.
