City man charged with child abuse in death of 3-year-old son

A Baltimore man has been charged with child abuse in the death of his 3-year-old son in January, Baltimore County police said Friday.

Delonte Deshawn Mack, 27, of the 5400 block of Seward Ave. the city’s Frankford neighborhood, was charged with child abuse and assault and was held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center, police said.

Police and emergency medical personnel were called to the home of a caregiver on Glenwood Road in Essex on Jan. 19, where they were told that the boy, Cameron Anthony Blake, had slipped, hit his head on the floor and was unresponsive, police said.

The boy was taken to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center and later transferred to the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center because of the severity of his injuries, according to police. Cameron died Jan. 24, and the state medical examiner’s office ruled the death a homicide.

Police said an investigation led to Mack’s arrest. He is charged with first-degree child abuse resulting in death, first-degree child abuse resulting in severe physical injury, second-degree child abuse by a custodian and second-degree assault.
