A Baltimore woman was arrested after trying to carry a 9mm caliber handgun past a security checkpoint at Baltimore Washington International-Thurgood Marshall Airport Friday.
The gun was loaded with six bullets, officials said.
It marked the third gun that TSA officers have detected at BWI so far this year. Last year TSA officers detected 16 firearms at the airport.
The woman was identified by officials Friday as Shannon Jennifer Roberts, 44, of Middle River, Md.
The gun was found by TSA officers among the woman's carry-on items as she was passing through the security checkpoint.
Travelers who bring firearms to the checkpoint are subject to possible criminal charges from law enforcement and civil penalties from TSA of up to $11,000, officials said.
