A man was arrested at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport on Wednesday morning after a loaded hand gun was located in his carry-on bag at a security checkpoint, law enforcement officials said.
Roger W. Allen, 55, was arrested by Maryland Transportation Authority Police officers called to the checkpoint about 10:54 a.m. said 1st Sgt. Jonathan Green, a MdTA Police spokesman.
Transportation Security Administration agents first located the .25-caliber handgun, which was loaded with six rounds, in Allen's bag as it passed through an X-ray machine, the TSA said.
The TSA said Allen is from Pittsburgh and told agents he had driven with the gun to Maryland before attempting to board a flight to Miami. Allen's address is listed as being in the 300 block of Adams Court in Glen Burnie in online court records.
Green said Allen's permanent address is in Pennsylvania, but that he is working in Glen Burnie.
Allen could not be reached for comment. He did not have an attorney listed in the online records.
The TSA said Allen's arrest had no impact on airport operations.
Fliers are allowed to travel with firearms in checked luggage if they are properly stored, unloaded, and declared to the traveler's airline prior to their passing through security.
