Western District residents cook for officers to show appreciation

In West Baltimore, where the headlines tend to too often be about crime and despair, Roxane Prettyman wanted police officers to know residents appreciate the work they do. For the past several years, officers in the Western District had been leading their own holiday dinner efforts, and Prettyman, the vice president of the district's police community relations council, decided it was past due for residents to take it back. The cooking took place on Thursday, at 1st Mt. Cavalry Baptist Church, and it was warmed and served for the officers on two different shifts the following day.

Here's video of her efforts, shot over both days by the Sun's Steve Sullivan and Kenneth K. Lam.
