A 62-year-old Reservoir Hill man is facing four counts of attempted first-degree murder after attacking family members with a "sword-type knife" on Sunday, according to court records and a police report.
Police said Allen Victor Lambertis got upset when his 17-year-old granddaughter refused to leave the family home, where she said she was caring for a relative with medical problems. Lambertis retrieved a three- to four-foot-long knife and began swinging it at her, she said.
When police arrived, the girl was suffering from a deep cut to her neck, as well as cuts to her hand and top of her head, police said.
Two other victims were found in a second-floor bedroom. One of them suffered a cut that nearly severed a portion of her hand; the other had been stabbed in the shoulder.
Police who responded to the scene, in the 2200 block of Brookfield Ave., evacuated the occupants of the home because they believed Lambertis was possibly barricaded in the basement with explosives, according to the police report. Lambertis was later located in an alley in the 2400 block of Linden Ave. Police did not say whether explosives were found, but were not immediately able to recover the knife, according to the report.
Lambertis' girlfriend, who he has been with for 30 years and had a child with but were never married, told police she never married him due to his anger problems. She was also injured in the incident.
Court records show Lambertis was being held without bond, pending a bail review hearing in District Court.
