Police blotter: Robberies for the week of Aug. 16

There were 71 robberies reported across Baltimore by police for the week ending Aug. 16, a 20 percent increase over the previous week.

The robberies appeared to be concentrated in the northern areas of the city - 14 occurred in the Northeastern District, 12 happened in the Northwestern District, and 10 were reported in the Northern District. The city has nine police districts.


The 71 robberies were an increase from 58 reported robberies the previous week, though it was down compared with the same week last year when 84 robberies were reported, according to the Police Department's weekly Comstat data.

There were 15 commercial robberies, 11 home invasions, one carjacking, and 44 street robberies, according to information posted by the city. Several neighborhoods saw multiple incidents, including Frankford, which experienced five robberies, and Sandtown-Winchester, which saw four.

A sampling of the incidents, posted to OpenBaltimore (detailed accounting not available):

-Someone was robbed at gunpoint in the 1600 block of N. Bond St. in Oliver on Aug. 10 at 3:30 p.m.

-A business in Reisterstown Station, in the 4200 block of Primrose Ave., was robbed at gunpoint on Aug. 10 at 8:58 p.m.

-Two people were held up in the 4800 block of Liberty Heights Ave. in Howard Park on Aug. 10 at 10:15 p.m.

-A residential robbery at gunpoint occurred Aug. 11 at 1 a.m. in Medfield, in the 4400 block of La Plata Ave.

-All four robberies reported in Sandtown-Winchester occurred Aug. 11 and Aug. 12. Someone was robbed at knifepoint on Aug. 11 at 11:15 a.m. in the 1700 block of Presstman St.; a gunpoint robbery occurred in the 1800 block of N. Mount St. 3:20 p.m. that day; then on Aug. 12 at 6:25 p.m. someone was robbed in the 1600 block of N. Carey St.; and another person was robbed in the 1500 block of N. Woodyear St. at 11 p.m.

-Three robberies were reported in Druid Hill Park - two of them in the 3100 block of Swan Dr. One was reported at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 13, the second at 9:45 p.m. later that day. On Aug. 14 at 4:20 a.m., a commercial armed robbery was reported in the 1800 block of Mansion House Dr., the same block as the Maryland Zoo. But police said the victim of the robbery was a cab driver.

-A cluster of robberies in and around downtown occurred late Aug. 13 and early Aug. 14. Someone was robbed in the 300 block of Light St. at 10:30 p.m.; then at 2:20 a.m., someone was robbed in Mount Vernon in the 200 block of W. Madison St. At 3:54 a.m., a gunpoint robbery was reported in the 200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and at 4:00 a.m. a street robbery was reported in the 1300 block of S. Carey St. in Pigtown.

-Police have previously disclosed that a UPS service center was held up on Aug. 14 at 8:40 p.m., in the 6500 block of Quad Ave. in the Pulaski Industrial Area in Southeast Baltimore. Police said three masked men stole four shopping bags full of "electronics."

-Two people were held up in the 100 block of S. Broadway at 1:55 a.m. on Aug. 15.

-Someone was robbed in the 2700 block of Lawina Rd. in Windsor Hills on Aug. 15, at 12:30 p.m.

-A business in the 5100 block of Sinclair Lane in Franford was robbed on Aug. 15 at 5:30 p.m.


-Someone was robbed at gunpoint at 4:50 a.m. in Little Italy in the 1000 block of Eastern Ave. on Aug. 16.

-A gunpoint robbery occurred at the intersection of Calvert and Baltimore streets, downtown, at 1:45 a.m. on Aug. 16.
