A former UPS worker convicted of 11 federal felonies related to 50 burglaries and nine home invasion robberies is to be sentenced to 97 years in prison today. That's a stiff sentence even by federal standards.
Jason Thomas Scott, 28, was convicted by a jury in the federal courthouse in Greenbelt. His convictions also include counts for armed carjacking, production of child pornography and theft of guns. He is, in short, a "professional criminal," as dubbed by the Maryland U.S. Attorney's Office.
His crimes were committed mostly in Prince George's County and he came to the attention of local police in the summer of 2009 when a tipster informed that he and another man were selling stolen firearms in Landover. Both men worked at a UPS customer service center in Landover.
