Since writing about copper thieves targeting homes in Homeland and Ruxton, I've been inundated by storis from victims in the city and beyond. One woman in Pikesville told me that her $5,000 statue was taken from outside her house, even though it had been cemented to the ground.
Today came a new low -- a report from a pastor in Towson who said copper from his church was taken this fall. Here is the account from Rev. Michael Carrion:
"On Saturday, September 24, Immaculate Heart of Mary in Towson discovered the theft of 11 of our copper downspouts from the Rectory, the south side of the Church and on the School. Several of them from the sides of the Church were about 20 feet in length.
On November 16th, the day that our roofer came with the replacements, we discovered that two more from the north side of the Church has since been stolen and we are waiting for them to be replaced. To make the new spouts less tempting to thieves, we have accepted our insurer's recommendation that the new downspouts be fabricated with TCS II Stainless (terne-coated stainless - a 50% tin, 50% zinc alloy)."
