Two men and two women were shot in East Baltimore about two hours before the start of the Preakness Saturday, police said.
The incident took place around 4:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Broadway in the Oliver neighborhood on the city's east side.
A 36-year-old woman was shot in the foot; a 27-year-old woman was shot in the chest; a 30-year-old man was shot in the stomach and leg; and a 23-year-old man was shot in the ankle, police said. All four were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The condition of the victims was not immediately available.
Rain began to fall at the shooting scene as detectives investigated. The shootings continue a string of violence in the city.
Two people were killed and four were injured in shootings Friday night and early Saturday morning. As of midday Saturday, there have been 35 homicides in the past month in Baltimore.
