A Baltimore man has been charged with arson after allegedly setting his girlfriend’s wig on fire and threatening to burn her apartment Monday in Glen Burnie.

Residents of the Freetown Village apartments called Anne Arundel County police to report yelling an odor of smoke just after midnight. The woman also called police and told them her boyfriend locked her out of her apartment and burned her wig on her gas stove.

Police arrived and found Darius K. Gissentaner, 28, smoking a cigarette outside the building in the complex. After he ran inside and refused to come open the door, police smelled smoke and forced their way inside.

Officers said they discovered that Gissentaner had caused more than $2,400 in damage inside the apartment, cutting electrical cords, breaking furniture, plumbing and drywall.

An Anne Arundel County fire marshal also was called to the apartment.

Police placed Gissentaner under arrest, charging him with multiple counts of second-degree arson, making a threat of arson, malicious burning, reckless endangerment and misdemeanor marijuana possession. They discovered he is wanted on outstanding warrants in Baltimore city and county.

A District Court commissioner also issued a domestic violence restraining order that Gissentaner avoid any contact with the woman.
