A 20-year-old man was released from detention last week and sentenced to three years’ of supervised probation after stealing a rental car from someone he was smoking marijuana with, according to court records.
Less than a week before he was scheduled for trial in Circuit Court, Teray Maurice Lemon of Annapolis pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and a felony theft charge.
Lemon was arrested by Annapolis police in September, three days after a rented Nissan Altima was reported stolen.
The victim told officers he came to Annapolis on a Friday night to meet and smoke marijuana with someone he knew by the nickname “Doo,” later identified through social media as Lemon.
Lemon, the victim, and two others were together in the Altima, according to charging documents, when Lemon pulled out a handgun and announced a robbery. The victim gave up his identification card, passport, backpack, shoulder bag and approximately $170 in cash, police wrote.
Though police initially reported the two other people in the car also drew weapons, the pair were never identified or charged in connection to the robbery.
Lemon was arrested after the weekend. He was initially charged with six felonies, including armed carjacking and armed robbery, and other firearm misdemeanors.
Lemon was given credit by Anne Arundel Circuit Judge J. Michael Wachs for the 186 days he served in detention after his arrest.
