A North Carolina man has been arrested for an assault at a 7-Eleven in Annapolis, which prompted authorities to fly a 53-year-old man to shock trauma with critical injuries, police said.

Charles Edward Clark, 44, of Winston Salem, has been charged with first- and second-degree assault and conspiracy to commit first- and second-degree assault, among other offenses, according to online court records.

He was ordered held without bond Tuesday. Clark is in custody at the Jennifer Road Detention Center. It’s not clear from online court records if he is being represented by an attorney.

Annapolis police descended March 9 upon the 7-Eleven at 980 Bay Ridge Road 7:45 p.m. after hearing reports of an assault.

Officers found a 53-year-old man, who had sustained injuries to his head and abdomen.

Police said the man was assaulted at the convenience store by multiple attackers, none of whom police believe were armed.

The 53-year-old was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. His condition the next morning was described by police as critical but stable.

A judge issued an arrest warrant for Clark a week ago, online court records show. Officers served the warrant Tuesday.

Annapolis police encourage anybody with information about the assault to call detectives at 410-260-3439.
