A Bowie woman was arrested Friday on assault charges stemming from a mask dispute at an ice cream shop in Edgewater, while a man Anne Arundel County police said was also involved in the altercation with employees remains at large.
Ibukunoluwa Oluwaseun Opanuga, 26, faces counts of felony and simple assault charges, as well as disorderly conduct, trespassing and affray offenses, online court records show.
Opanuga, who was released after posting bond, is being represented by the Office of the Public Defender. An attorney there could not immediately be reached for comment Monday afternoon.
Police said the altercation happened around 7:15 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Coldstone Creamery on Lee AirPark Drive. Officers responded shortly thereafter for a call that was dispatched as an “unknown disturbance.”
A man and a woman walked into the store but were either not wearing masks or not wearing masks appropriately, police said.
Employees apparently confronted the pair, but they were not cooperative. Police said the dispute escalated until the pair assaulted two employees.
