Anne Arundel County police have arrested and charged two people with a carjacking early Sunday morning in Glen Burnie, the department announced Monday.
Officers responded at around 12:05 a.m. to the area of Ritchie Highway and Shelley Road in Glen Burnie for a report of a carjacking.
A 36-year-old man told police he picked up a man and woman in Baltimore to give them a ride. When they reached the area of Route 2 and Shelley Road, the male passenger became “agitated” and started jabbing a knife into the man’s back, according to a police news release.
The man then got out of his vehicle, a 2006 Toyota Avalon, and the passengers drove away in it, police said. The man suffered minor injuries that weren’t life-threatening, according to police. Detectives were then able to identify the passengers, who were later arrested.
Luiz Alphonsa Perez, 40, of Glen Burnie, was charged with armed carjacking, armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft, according to online court records. Janell Louise Bender, 31, of Edgewater, was charged with armed carjacking, armed robbery and theft, among other charges.
Both are being held without bond and neither had attorneys listed for them in court records Monday.
