70-year-old Odenton bicyclist killed after hit by car, Anne Arundel police say

An Odenton man biking near the intersection of Piney Orchard Parkway and Old Waugh Chapel Road died Monday morning after he was hit by a car, Anne Arundel County police said.

Stephen Joel Marx, 70, was crossing the intersection while traveling southeast on Old Waugh Chapel Road when a green Honda Civic hit him in the intersection. Marx was transported to the shock trauma center by Anne Arundel County Fire Department around 7:40 a.m. Monday after suffering life-threatening injuries. He died of his injuries at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Driver Steven Puguero, a 23-year-old from Upper Marlboro, and his passenger Mya Sheler, a 21-year-old from College Park, were not injured in the crash. Police say drugs or alcohol are not a factor in the crash that is currently under investigation by the Traffic Safety Section.
