Former Anne Arundel County Public Schools bus driver charged with child sex abuse

A former school bus driver for Anne Arundel County Public Schools has been charged with sexually abusing a child, according to online court records.

The charges against Leroy Samuel Green III are alleged to have occurred several years after his tenure as a bus driver for the school system, which contracts private bus companies to shuttle students to and from school.

Green has been charged with six counts of causing the sexual abuse of a minor in his custody, three counts of third-degree sex offenses, three counts of having sexual contact with another person without their consent and three counts of second-degree assault, according to online court records.

The abuse is alleged to have occurred over a year, from August 29, 2019, to the same date this year, the online records show.

Bob Mosier, a school spokesperson, said Green began driving for a contractor in 2013 and stopped driving sometime in 2015. Mosier could not say Friday evening which contractor employed Green. He said Green, like other bus drivers, was never employed by the school system.

Green’s attorney, Benjamin Herbst, declined to comment on the allegations after consulting with his client.

Officials issued a warrant for Green’s arrest on Oct. 22, and detectives with the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division took him into custody Monday.

On Tuesday, a District Court judge set a bond for Green at $20,000. Someone with the same last name posted $2,000 the same day, and Green was released.

Green does not appear to have any criminal record in Maryland.

More details about the allegations against Green were not available Friday evening.
