The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards filed charges against a police communications operator at the department.

On July 20, the office received a complaint accusing the dispatcher of committing sick leave fraud at the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Police said Brandy Quarles, 27, gave multiple sick notes to her supervision from a doctor advising she would need extended sick leave beginning in June of 2021. Investigation found the sick notes were fraudulent, police said.

Quarles was hired and working with another agency in their dispatch training program, thus getting paid fraudulently by the police department. Quarles allegedly defrauded the county of over $4,300.00 and was separated from the agency upon the initiation of this investigation. Quarles was hired by the police department in May of 2018.
