Head coach: Tara Larkin (second year)
2012 record: 4-10
Top returning players: Leah Hardin, Sr., (Midfield); Faith Edmonson, Sr., (Forward); Hunter Woods, Jr., (Midfield)
Key newcomers: Erin Baier, Fr., (Forward)
Outlook: "We are looking to improve upon last year's record with a core group of returning starters from last season," coach Larkin said. "This year's roster is packed with upperclassman, including 10 seniors."
Head coach: Josh Clemmer (ninth year)
2012 record: 8-7-2
Top returning players: Jordan Layfield, Sr., (Midfield); Caroline Lozzi, Sr., (Defense); Natalie Decker, Sr., (Forward); Shannon Williams, Jr., (Midfield); Kayla Klock, Jr., (Forward)
Key newcomers: Andrea Sipos, So., (Goalie); Gabby Encarnacion, So., (Midfield)
Outlook: The Bobcats return 10 starters from last year and look to make a run at the state playoffs. "We are solid all over the field and have an incredibly deep, mature roster that is ready to compete with anybody," coach Clemmer said.
C. Milton Wright
Head coach: Paul Austin (13th year)
2012 record: 17-2-1
Top returning players: Angela Kuhn, Sr., (Midfield); Alyssa Austen, Sr., (Forward); Katie Burgee, Sr., (Midfield); Stacy Venanzi, Jr., (Goalie)
Key newcomers: N/A
Outlook: Although only four starters return from last year's state finalist team, the Mustangs are filled with talented players who saw game time last year, but did not start because of a squad that had 10 seniors. Overall team speed is a strength as well as a group who buys into a team approach. Replacing the entire back four is one of the team's challenges as well as developing the needed chemistry with new faces in new roles.
Head coach: Mike Friskey (eighth year)
2012 record: 10-2
Top returning players: Alyssa Rankin, Jr., (Midfield); Caitlin Rankin, Jr., (Midfield); Ladae Boykin, Sr., (Forward/midfield/defense); Nina Heinlein, Sr., Defense); Shelby Richter, Sr., (Defense); Alex Van Graafeiland, So., (Forward/midfield); Megan Poniatowski, Sr., (Forward)
Key newcomers: Bella Barbieri, So., (Forward)
Outlook: "The Edgewood girls soccer team, coming off a Susquehanna Division championship last season, will dig deep to compete in the Chesapeake Division of the UCBAC this season," coach Friskey said. Helping the cause will be 10 returning starters from last season's squad that went 10-2 in the regular season. A change in the level of play will certainly be a challenge for these Rams, but they are looking to rise to the occasion.
Head coach: Mark Hannahs (seventh year)
2012 record: 15-3-2
Top returning players: Beth Walton, Sr.; Brooke Nigrin, Sr.; Sierrah Taylor, Sr.; Megan Reilly, Sr.; Kayla Reilly, Sr.; Logan Gasior, Jr.; Maribeth Esposito, Jr.; Cortney Epstein, Sr.; Caroline English, Sr.; Skylar Bodt, Jr.; Carly Laubach, Jr.; Megan Shock, Sr.; Casey Baker, Sr.
Key newcomers: Chase Otenasek, Jr.; Alicyn Lose, Fr.; Sydney Crofton, Fr.; Maria Gentile, Fr.; Meredith Hannahs, So.
Outlook: "Have a great group of seniors with a lot of playing time," coach Hannahs said. "Will be starting two or three freshmen who will have to get use to the speed of play. Competition has been fierce in practice and we have a good amount of depth. If we work hard and play as a team and the freshman mix in well we should be pretty successful."
Head coach: Matt Berg (eighth year)
2012 record: 10-5
Top returning players: Julie Ransone, Sr., (Goalie); Dana Waskiewicz, Sr., (Forward); Megan Doleschal, Sr., (Defense); Sarah North, Sr., (Midfield)
Key newcomers: Amanda Weir, So., (Defense); Tori Arcilesi, So., (Defense/midfield); Mackenzie Forsythe, So., (Forward); Julianna Kuessner, Jr., (Defense/forward); Kara Hayward, Jr., (Defense)
Outlook: "I'm really excited to see how this year pans out. We have strengths at every position this year and for the first time ever at Tech, we have good soccer players coming off the bench in relief as well," coach Berg said. "As long as we stay healthy, our goals are to win the Susquehanna Division and to garner a few wins against our Chesapeake rivals as well."
Havre de Grace
Head coach: Randy Cypher (third year)
2012 record: 6-7
Top returning players: Katie Thompson, Sr., (Defense); Carly Thompson, Sr., (Defense); Colleen Riding, Sr., (Halfback); Riley Arnold, Sr., (Goalie); Rachel Rossi, Jr., (Striker); Addie Richardson, Jr., (Defense); Lauren Herrington, So., (Halfback)
Key newcomers: Kaley Harris, So., (Halfback); Annelise Beer, Jr., (Defense); Courtney Knight, Jr., (Defense)
Outlook: "With last year's six wins, the girls are wanting more and have been working very hard to improve on that stat this year," coach Cypher said. "The girls have seen that hard work pays off and with the help of assistant coach Richard Herrington, it has been very rewarding to see the improvement of the once doormat of the UCBAC girls soccer teams. Now they are ready to make some real noise this season in the league." Cypher is also very thankful to have Kelsey Sudano, an ex -Havre de Grace player, that has come back to coach the JV team. "We are looking for great things from her and both the girls soccer teams this year," Cypher said.
Head coach: Gary Lynch (17th year)
Top returning players: Sophie Centi, Sr., (Midfield); Meredith Haggerty, Sr., (Defense); Caroline Sdanowich, Jr., (Defense); Kara Klages, Jr., (Defense); Jenna Santoro, Jr., (Midfield); Mary Kate Garrity, So., (Forward); Kristin Isoldi, So., (Forward)
Key newcomers: Jenna White, Jr., (Forward)
Outlook: "Looking at the roster, John Carroll is very, very young with only three seniors, but every one of the 13 returning players started at some point last year," coach Lynch said. "Hopefully, that will give a strong "experience" base and this year, every mistake, will not have such a drastic effect on the outcome of the match." Lynch also noted that this year's side is also faster, quicker and more game-fit than last year. "The hope is to be able to play into maturity and make a run in the end-of-season tournament," Lynch said.
Head coach: Megan Bongiovanni (sixth year)
2012 record: 0-10
Top players: Breanna Kazamias, So., (Midfield); Kiley Hartsell, Fr., (Defense); Austine May, Fr., (Striker)
Outlook: The Joppatowne girls soccer team this year is extremely young. "With only three upperclassmen on a 15 person roster, we are looking forward to this season and future seasons to come," coach Bongiovanni said. "Many girls have stepped up to take a leadership role on the team, even as a freshman or a sophomore. The girls on this squad have been working their hardest every day at practice and we continue to see improvements on a daily basis."
Head co-coaches: Tom Berg (29th year) and Mike Auth (sixth year)
2012 record: 11-4-1
Top returning players: Maria Auth, So., (Forward); Tessa Mirjafary, Sr., (Halfback); Katie Clark, (Sr., (Halfback); Meghan O'Donnell, Jr., (Forward); Nicole Latgis, Sr., (Fullback)
Key newcomers: Lindsay Young, Fr., (Halfback); Erin Dean, So., (Halfback)
Outlook: With a roster of four freshmen and seven sophomores and 11 newcomers over all, this is definitely a transition year, according to coach Berg. "There is leadership and the hope is that the team will gel quickly and become stronger as the season goes along," Berg said.
Head coach: Mike Parker (sixth year)
2012 record: 7-7
Top returning players: Morgan Webster, Sr., (Defense): Gabby Samra, Sr., (Midfield); Stephanie Ehly, Sr., (Goalie)
