Maryland Democrats have landed one of the nation's up-and-coming Hispanic officeholders as the headliner for their annual party fundraising event.

U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro of Texas will speak at the Sept. 12 "Gala 2013: Forward Together," party chairwoman Yvette Lewis announced.

"His work on critical issues like immigration reform serves to inspire us as a party for the battles to come," Lewis said. "I not only look forward to hosting him here in Maryland, but to following his promising career as a public servant.”
